My mom and I had a tradition when I was younger of watching television, and eating Double Stuf Oreos and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Seriously, believe me when I say this is the best dessert you never thought to try. You’ll thank me later.
We haven’t done this since I was in middle school because the older you get, the more calories just seem to show up – weird, huh? But on my last night home from break, we decided to do this delicious tradition once again.
Now, we did this when I was younger more often than I would like to admit, so we’ve found a good system to it. Personally, I don’t like regular Oreos. I’m in it for the filling, so Double Stuf Oreos is the way to go. We also found that Edy’s Slow Churned Cookie Dough ice cream pairs perfectly with it because it’s more creamy and rich tasting. When we went to purchase the ingredients though, we stumbled upon Mega stuffed Oreos. These are new and have more filling in them than Double Stuf – game changer. Of course, we had to get these. We couldn’t find the slow churned ice cream, so we just stuck with Edy’s Cookie Dough ice cream, which is equally good although not as creamy.
Look at that picture – what more could you want? So we happily plopped down on the couch in our comfiest pajamas, readily armed with spoons in hand, turned on the television, and dived in. My mom and I have different techniques for how we layer the Oreos with the ice cream. Personally, I like to put a fat scoop right on top of the Oreo, so you minimize mess when biting in. My mom sandwiches hers in with the cream. Either way you do it, it still tastes amazing. When you eat this pair together, you get contrasting textures and creamy flavors – the ice cream has a smooth texture with slight crunch from the chocolate chips and cookie dough. The Oreo, on the other hand, is all crunch because of the cookie, but has a creamy flavor and interior with the cream. Put together, it’s pure magic.
