Les Fous de L’Ile

This was one of the best meals I’ve had in my entire life.

My dinner at Les Fous de L’Ile was elegant, inspired, delicious, refined and somehow extremely affordable. This fine dining establishment in a nice area of the city offers an appetizer, entree and dessert for only €30. Again, unheard of in the United States; I’m pretty sure this meal would cost $60 in Manhattan.

To begin, I ordered the black sausage with green lentil salad and apple. I think black sausage can be too powerful sometimes, but this wasn’t the case. The sausage wasn’t too powerful at all, the lentils added some nice texture and the apple was refreshing.

I chose the lamb sweetbread with mixed carrots as my entree. The sweetbreads were rich and flavorful, and the gravy on top only heightened that more. The carrot puree under the sweetbreads had a lovely smooth texture and helped to balance out the richness.

Crispy chocolate and caramel mousse with candied clementine ended this dining experience. I loved this dessert because it was soft, crispy, sweet and tangy. This flavor profile was the perfect way to end this meal.

If (and when) I return to Paris, I’ll make a point to go back to Les Fous de L’Ile. It was the best meal I ate on this entire trip and I’ll always remember it.
