I’m not going to lie – I can be a bit of a sushi snob. Coming from Florida to Pennsylvania was a bit of a rough transition. Not only did I have to adjust to snow, but I had to adjust to fruit and sushi not tasting as fresh (but the bagels and pizza up here are much better, so it wasn’t all losses). I’ve been at Lehigh for four years, and found some good sushi places but nothing great. I just recently learned about One Third, and this has changed my whole Pennsylvania sushi experience.
What’s great about One Third is that their specialty rolls are really unique and diverse. Even though it’s not the same as living on the coast, their variety in rolls is incomparable to anything I’ve had so far.
I know one roll isn’t enough for me, so for my dinner at One Third I decided to start with the Tom Yum Seafood Soup. I fell in love with this soup. It’s quite spicy and is chock-full of seafood and vegetables. The taste of it is great, and every once in a while you’ll get a cherry tomato on your spoon which adds a lovely pop of freshness to contrast the spicy. My only complaint, though, is that they leave the tails on the shrimp and put the whole shrimp in. This makes it difficult to eat, but the soup is so tasty that it’s worth it.
For my sushi, I ordered the volcano roll – baked tuna, salmon and yellowtail, radish, cucumber, masago, spicy mayo sauce. When it came out, it was more than I expected. My eyes widened at the site of it because the toppings were much more than I expected and it looked so good. I loved this roll because there was nothing bland about it. I like when sushi has some sauce on it and this definitely had plenty of sauce, yet it wasn’t overwhelming. The radish mixed with the sauce added a nice crunch so it wasn’t too gooey. There’s nothing bad to be said about this roll.
I happy that finally, after four years, I’ve found some good sushi in Pennsylvania. The atmosphere of One Third is very appealing with the warm colors and unique decor. The wait staff is also very kind, and my experience when I went back was just as great. I’d highly recommend eating at One Third.
