Sal’s Brick Oven Pizza

One of the most common places to go eat as a student at Lehigh is Sal’s. It’s a local Italian restaurant that’s walking distance from campus. My two housemates, Lindsay and Lika, had never been. We’re seniors and I found this preposterous because all Lehigh students dine there at least once during their Lehigh career. We decided to have a house dinner there one evening.

When you eat at Sal’s, you get complimentary garlic knots with your meal. These came out first and we split them. They were perfectly garlicy and delicious. These garlic knots were a great way to start our meal.

Lika wasn’t overly hungry so she ordered bruschetta, which came with diced tomatoes, onions, capers, mozzarella, basil, oregano and olive oil. Most bruschetta doesn’t come with all of these fixings on top, so I asked to take a bite. It was very tasty and I was a fan of the cheese on it.

Lindsay and I were hungry so we went with pasta dishes. Lindsay had ordered penne alla vodka and she really enjoyed it. I took a bite of it and thought it was very tasty. For my meal, I got the veal picatta. My meal came with sautéed red pepper, capers and diced tomatoes in a white wine lemon sauce with some basil. Last semester, Lindsay and I had gone to Mama Nina’s, an Italian restaurant that’s further from campus but is owned by the people who owe Sal’s. When my meal from Sal’s came out, I realized I had ordered the same thing when I went to Mama Nina’s. I could tell the two restaurants have the same owner because my meal tasted the same. However, I’m not complaining because it was still delicious.

We all left very satisfied with our meals. The food is a bit pricey, but the portions are huge so you get two meals out of it. My only complaint is that the restaurant is small so it gets noisy and it can also be hard to get a seat on the weekend. The service was good, and the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. Although this wasn’t my first trip to Sal’s, I’m glad Lindsay and Lika had a good first experience.
