I don’t drink sugary specialty drinks, but I have one exception. Every once in a while I will treat myself to the Dalai Latte from Deja Brew Coffeehouse & Deli.
It tastes like dessert in a cup when I’m drinking it, but without being overpoweringly sweet for a beverage. It’s made with iced chai tea & milk, coffee, whipped cream, and “sweet flavors of Tibet and a dash of enlightenment” – so basically some extra sweet flavors mixed in and nutmeg sprinkled on top. What makes this drink even better than it sounds is that it’s served over coffee iced cubes instead of standard water iced cubes. This in turn allows the beverage to keep it’s flavors and not taste watered down.
If you don’t like coffee, you can still order this because you can hardly taste it. It tastes like a sweeter version of a chai tea latte, and I have to restrain myself from downing it all in one big gulp. It’s a little pricey – $3.75 plus tax – but definitely worth it.
In addition to how scrumptious this latte is, I love the atmosphere of Deja Brew Coffeehouse & Deli. The interior has a very artsy and “hipster” vibe to it. The walls are adorned in quirky artwork, giving it a very cozy feel. Whenever I’m there, I always feel like I’m inside on a rainy day and snuggled up with a hot beverage – I could sit in there for hours.
If you want to treat yourself to delicious beverage, this one is definitely worth it. You’re only problem with it will be that there isn’t enough; it’s so good you’ll keep wanting more.
