Restaurant Week: Tapas on Main

Restaurant week – the glorious time in Bethlehem when restaurants offer special menus for a fixed price. This is a great week to explore new places and get a lot of food for a very reasonable price. I went on two restaurant week adventures during this time, and my first one was to Tapas on Main.

Tapas offered a three course dinner menu for $30. I began my meal with a pomegranate sangria, and luckily was able to order it five minutes before happy hour ended. I really enjoyed this flavor of the sangria because it wasn’t too sweet. While sipping on my drink, I decided to order the crab bisque garnished with scallion croutons as my appetizer.

This soup was a great way to warm me up on a cold January day. It was perfectly creamy and the croutons added that little extra crunch. It didn’t taste too fishy and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

For my main dish, I ordered the frutos del mar – clams, calamari, mussels and shrimp over linguine with a spicy romesco sauce. I was very pleased with this dish. The sauce had a nice amount of spiciness and I got an ample amount of seafood with my dish. I asked for some cheese with my pasta, and I was actually surprised they didn’t offer me any (I love cheese with my pasta). My waitress came back out with a bowl of parmesan and she explained she was giving me a bowl because they don’t have a block to grade it. I was a little surprised a restaurant didn’t have this, but I didn’t care much because I got my cheese.

I finished off my meal with the mixed berry crepe – a combination of mascarpone cheese, sliced almonds and drizzled with honey. This crepe was very creamy, but I wish it had more berries and more acidity. It was lacking that necessary tang to offset the creaminess, but it was still good.

My overall experience at Tapas for restaurant week was very good. I was satisfied with my meal and the waitress did a great job. Tapas is a great restaurant in general and I would suggest going there.
