Have you ever found a place that’s so good you can’t shut up about it? That’s how I was with Rosie’s after eating there.
Rosie’s is a Mexican restaurant located in the East Village that is honestly ridiculously good for how cheap it is. If you go there during their happy hour and eat at the bar, you can enjoy $3 tacos. You think I’m kidding but I’m not.
I ordered the suadero taco, which was braised brisket and chipotle-tomatillo salsa, and the pescado taco, consisting of beer-battered cod, cabbage-jalapeño slaw and chipotle-lime mayo. The suadero was savory, flavorful and the meat was cooked to perfection. The pescado was warm and perfectly crispy, and I really liked the mayo on it. I honestly don’t know which one was better.
I also enjoyed a Michelada drink for $5. This beverage is a mixture of beer (they used Modelo), lime juice, and assorted sauces, spices and peppers. It was spicy like a bloody Mary but more refreshing because it was mixed with beer.
Even if you don’t go to Rosie’s during happy hour, their food is still very reasonably priced. You can enjoy two tacos for $8 and their drinks are pretty fairly priced. The quality of my food was great, the prices are hard to beat, and the atmosphere was fun and vibrant. Rosie’s proves you can enjoy great food in Manhattan without having to pay an absurd amount of money or sacrifice the quality for a low cost.
