Is coffee bad for you in excess? Yes. Do us coffee-dependent fanatics who have caffeine running through our veins instead of blood want to hear about that? No.
When I’m not in school, I try to limit my coffee consumption because a minimum of two cups a day isn’t always necessary. Does this mean I’m successful? Not at all. You would think while on vacation I wouldn’t need so much coffee because I’m sleeping in and napping at the beach. But that’s what you would think. I still woke up each morning and had my morning cup, but then right after we finished our morning cups the four of us would venture off to Sandpiper Coffee & Ice Cream for some iced coffee. Seams reasonable, right?
I am a huge iced coffee lover, so the only time I ever drink hot coffee is if it’s free or when it’s just too cold out for iced coffee. However, the iced coffee I got at Sandpiper was some of the best iced coffee I’ve had in a while. It was simple yet sweet, and it didn’t have all the froofy flavors some other places served. The one I’m talking about from Sandpiper is called the tan iced coffee. It’s just iced coffee with milk, sugar and vanilla. That’s it. No crazy flavors like campfire roasted s’mores with caramel and Hersey’s, or Milky Way and Snickers swirl. This tan coffee was simple but so good it tasted like I was drinking a dessert. Yum.
We went to Sandpiper so many times to get coffee in the morning, we figured we’d go there to eat breakfast one day. I got the veggie breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, spinach, tomato, mushroom, bell pepper and onion. I just assumed because they were a coffee place that the burrito would just be something pre-bought and heated up, but it seemed pretty made to order. This burrito really hit the spot – I felt good about myself because there were lots of vegetables in it, but not too good because it had an amazing and delicious amount of gooey cheese in it. This burrito really hit the spot and it left me very full and satisfied.
In addition, the Sandpiper serves some amazing ice cream. I have to apologize, though, because I went there twice for ice cream but never took a picture of it…oops. I can only attribute this to the fact that I have no self-control. So just take my word for it when I say their ice cream is very delicious. They even have an Old Baldy flavor – named after the lighthouse on the island – that consists of vanilla iced cream, cookie dough pieces and brownie chunks. Can I get a ‘yum, yes please!?’
The Sandpiper is a great little spot on the island because it offers you everything you really need – iced cream, great coffee and some tasty breakfast food. Because those are pretty much the life essentials, right?
