New York City has an assortment of places that most people have heard of and build up a hype around going to. Sarabeth’s is one of those restaurants everyone says you need to try at least once.
I’ve found with most places people talk up, the food is not that much better than what you can get at other places. My friend really wanted to try Sarabeth’s though, so I agreed to go with them. And just as I expected, we were met by a herd of people waiting to be seated when we arrived.
After we were seated, I looked over the menu and decided on the salmon eggs Benedict. This dish came with smoked salmon, hollandaise, peppers and chives. For what it was, the food was good. I liked that it came with a salad instead of home fries, but I thought the toast the meal came on was too dry.
It was good food, but I felt like it was really expensive for what it was – simply breakfast food. I understand my dish was pricier because it came with smoked salmon, but I thought the omelettes I saw on the menu were way overpriced. I could have gone someplace else, ordered something as equally good and gotten bottomless mimosas with it for the same price I paid at Sarabeth’s. But at the end of the day, these places make their money off being so popular. And because they’re so well-known, they’re able to charge more for their food.
