Christmas lights, paper lanterns and paper cutouts of fish are just a few of the things hanging from the ceiling of Stardust Video & Coffee. The hipster and self-described “quasi-healthy” restaurant full of antique portraits of strangers was the restaurant me and my friends decided on one Saturday evening. We were searching for a restaurant to meet all of our different tastes, and surprisingly, this place offered it all – healthy recipes, vegan options and hearty, meaty dishes.
The menu at Stardust Video & Coffee is quite diverse, that it’s a great place to go for people wanting to order different types of foods. After glancing at the menu, I picked the Boddhisatva. It was a bowl of steamed quinoa, tempeh, roasted vegetables, grated carrots, red onion micro greens, pumpkin seeds, seaweed and a dressing. The waitress told me that the dressing was green goddess, which is a green and creamy dressing with a variety of herbs.
I was so pleased at the appearance of my meal when it came out. It looked beautiful and colorful – I love eating lots of vegetables because it’s like eating the rainbow. The dressing came in a little cup, and I tasted it before pouring it over my food. The dressing tasted like lemon sorbet and wasn’t green, so it definitely wasn’t green goddess. Because it tasted so sweet, I was a tad nervous but poured it over my food anyway.
The dressing didn’t taste that sweet after pouring it over my meal, and it added a great lemon flavor. However, I would have appreciated just a little bit more dressing because it could have used a touch more. The tempeh was perfectly cooked, and I liked how the lemon dressing tasted with it. The vegetables were roasted just right for me, and added a nice warm and hearty flavor. I really enjoyed this dish and would order it again, but it wouldn’t be my first choice because I felt like it could have been enhanced a little.
Stardust Video & Coffee has a lovely atmosphere, and there’s plenty to look at while in there – there’s art and quirky items everywhere. The food is priced reasonable, and the waitstaff was very friendly. They also serve coffee, tea and other beverages, so it’s a great place to sit and hang out. If you’re in downtown Orlando, this is a place to go.
