One of my favorite ways to begin any weekend morning is a boozy brunch with my friends. It’s been a long work week and it’s the first time in five days you can finally sleep in. You deserve to start your day with some mimosas.
If you’re going to do brunch in Manhattan, you need a reservation. My friends and I failed to make one, so after much searching we found a place that could take us. The restaurant was an Italian place called Tre, and they had a champagne brunch deal that allowed you to get your choice of entree with an hour and a half of unlimited champagne and mimosas. We were sold.
Of course, we all started out the meal with mimosas. They were delicious but it’s pretty hard to mess up orange juice and champagne.
I ordered the frittata for my entree, which came with broccoli rabe, spicy Italian sausage and parmigiano. This may sound crazy, but something about this frittata reminded me of fried fish. I’ve had frittatas before and I think this one gave me that impression but it was more fried on top than I’m used to. In my opinion, it didn’t hold the egg flavor as well as it should have been it was a bit overdone. I also wasn’t able to pick up on the spicy Italian sausage. The whole thing just tasted a little flat and bland to me. I had to add ketchup to compensate.
All of my friends enjoyed their meals, so it could have just been what I ordered. Even though my food was decent, I had a great time with my friends. Tre is adorable in how it is decorated. It gives off a great atmosphere that makes for a good brunch out with your girlfriends. I also thought the champagne brunch deal was very reasonable, and our waitress was good – most servers don’t like to work brunch so I always cut them some slack. If I happened to find myself back at Tre, it would only be for the brunch deal but I would definitely order something else.
