When Americans typically think of Chinese food, they associate it with the really greasy takeout you get. It came to my attention, though, that there was an authentic Chinese restaurant near Lehigh called U & Tea that proved to be quite the opposite. Obviously, I had to try it out and see for myself.
One thing I was most excited about for going to U & Tea was getting bubble tea. While in California, I had bubble tea (or as they call it, boba tea) almost every day and I kind of, sort of, maybe might be addicted now…oops. While at U & Tea, I got the green tea bubble tea and it was scrumptious and satisfied all my cravings.
I wasn’t quite sure what to get for my entree, but then I noticed they had a section for hot pot. I had heard a lot of good things about hot pot so I wanted to try it. I ordered the Ma La dry hot pot, which was vegetables, chicken and shrimp. I love spicy food so obviously I ordered it spicy. Mistake. This food was the most ridiculously spicy thing I have had in my entire life, and I know how to handle the heat with food. It was to the point where I wanted to cry. I knew the food under all that heat was good, but I couldn’t handle it.
My take away from U & Tea: great food, great bubble tea but DO NOT ORDER IT SPICY UNLESS YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH. I really want to go back and try something medium spicy and actually get to enjoy the food. The food was pretty cheap, the wait staff was decent and the atmosphere was nice. Just too much heat for me to handle. I guess that’s why they say if you can’t handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen.
